Abstract
Corneal ulcer is a condition of partial loss of the corneal surface due to death of corneal tissue and is one of the causes of blindness in the world. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the occurrence of orneal ulcers at Makassar Eye Hospital in 2021 – 2022. The research method is quantitative analytic with cross sectional design and data analysis includes univariate and bivariate data using the chi-square test. The results of the study obtained 120 medical records of new cases of corneal ulcer patients at the Makassar Eye Hospital with the most patients age of 26-45 years are 33 patients (27.5%) and 46-65 years are 33 patients (27.5%). Male patients were predominant than females are 86 patients (71.7%). The majority of patients worked outdoors are 71 patients (59.2%). Based on contact lens use, 86 patients (71.7%) never used contact lenses before. Based on a history of eye trauma that has a history of eye trauma as many as 60 patients (50%). Conclusion in this study: there are significant relationships between age, sex, occupation, contact lens use, and history of eye trauma with the occurrence of corneal ulcers at Makassar Eye Hospital in 2021 – 2022.
